Chamber of Engineering Industries Hosts Prominent Russian Delegation as 13 Leading Egyptian Companies Compete for Partnership with the Russian Side
Egyptian-Russian moves to enhance comprehensive industrial integration and localize technology
Cairo — The headquarters of the Engineering Industries Chamber in Cairo hosted a large meeting to discuss prospects for strategic partnership and industrial integration between Egypt and Russia. The meeting was attended by a Russian delegation including representatives from the International Development Fund and Arka Corporation, as well as representatives from 13 leading Egyptian companies across various sectors.
The meeting opened with a speech by Engineer Mohamed El-Menshawy, Head of the Machinery and Equipment Division at the Engineering Industries Chamber. He highlighted Egypt's vast industrial and logistical capabilities, noting that the Chamber encompasses 22 specialized divisions representing approximately 150,000 factories. El-Menshawy emphasized Egypt's strategic geographic location between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, positioning it as a key gateway to African markets. He also praised the pivotal role of Egyptian-Russian cooperation in meeting the needs of the local and regional markets.
The meeting witnessed extensive interaction from the heads and representatives of the participating Egyptian companies, who belong to the decision-making category. Direct areas of cooperation were reviewed, including:
Localization of Fire Systems Industries: An agreement was reached with the Bavaria Group, one of the largest Egyptian companies in this field, to implement joint projects and localize the industry in cooperation with the Russian side.
Water and Wastewater Technology: An agreement was reached with one of the largest Egyptian companies specializing in desalination and wastewater treatment, with over 40 years of experience, to exchange expertise and implement major projects within Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.
Medical and Pharmaceutical Sector: A leading medical company expressed its desire to cooperate with Russian companies to import raw materials for medicines and medical supplies.
The interventions of Dr. Hussein Aref, Chairman of the International Development Fund, constituted a pivotal turning point in the meeting. His strategic approach and executive vision contributed to deeper discussions, emphasizing the importance of a swift transition from theoretical understandings to practical implementation and the application of work programs on the ground. This resulted in tangible outcomes and high-level agreements between the Egyptian and Russian sides. He affirmed that the International Development Fund seeks to build sustainable investment and manufacturing bridges, relying on integrating Russian expertise in the technology and machinery sectors with the substantial production capacities of Egyptian factories under the Chamber's umbrella. He also stressed that the partnership targets not only the Egyptian market but also serves as a joint launchpad to meet the needs of African and Arab markets.
This vision propelled negotiations toward decisive procedural steps, culminating in an agreement to sign a joint cooperation agreement with the Engineering Industries Chamber through the International Development Fund, in collaboration and partnership with the Russian company Arka. The agreement includes setting up the administrative and organizational arrangements for launching the anticipated industrial exhibition and conference, where the International Development Fund, in coordination with Arka, will undertake the process of selecting and electing Russian companies and factories that supply raw materials and advanced technology, to link them directly with finished product factories in Egypt, in order to ensure the building of integrated supply chains and promote joint industrial development.
