Dr. Hussein Aref Presents a New International Vision for Digitalizing Trade and Fostering Economic Development ("International Trading House")
Dr. Hussein Aref, President of the International Development Fund, has proposed an innovative vision to reshape the import-export ecosystem through a highly automated digital trade platform. This platform integrates technology, trade, and logistics into a unified system, enabling exporters and importers to track transactions in real-time via a smart application. It also monitors risks and variables, allowing for immediate intervention to address them, thereby enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and security of international trade.
Dr. Hussein Aref, President of the Global Development Fund, presented a new vision for reshaping export and import mechanisms based on transitioning from the traditional trade model to an integrated, smart digital ecosystem. This framework leverages technology to connect producers and exporters with global markets, enabling them to efficiently and transparently manage and track their commercial and logistical operations, while proactively identifying risks and managing variables that may disrupt the export process. This contributes to accelerating trade flows, mitigating risks, and enhancing competitiveness in international markets.
This vision was embodied in the launch of a highly automated e-commerce trade platform, created by integrating two digital platforms—one Russian and one Egyptian—into a unified digital ecosystem, delivering an advanced model for cross-border digital trade. The platform was launched under the extraordinary circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy, accompanied by unprecedented disruptions and challenges to trade flows and supply chains. This amplified the need for digital solutions capable of ensuring business continuity, directly and effectively connecting producers and exporters with foreign markets, and offering greater flexibility and transparency in managing export and import operations.
The project's philosophy is rooted in building an integrated digital ecosystem that goes beyond product listing and buyer-seller communication to connect the commercial transaction with the full spectrum of services accompanying export and import operations—from transport and shipping to customs clearance, insurance, inspection, and banking services.
Among the most prominent features of this approach is that it enables both the exporter and the importer to directly track the progress of export and logistics operations in real time via a mobile application, providing instant, accurate information regarding shipment stages and transaction progress. On the other hand, the platform addresses all risks and emergency variables through a smart, real-time tracking and intervention system that ensures any obstacle or disruption in the supply chain is managed before it impairs the commercial operation.
Dr. Aref emphasizes that digital transformation is no longer merely a technological choice, but has become a fundamental cornerstone for developing international trade and opening new markets for companies and producers—especially small and medium-sized enterprises, which represent the backbone of developing economies.
The project reflects a special commitment to supporting small exporters through training and qualification programs in e-commerce, exporting, and digital marketing, alongside fostering a business environment that enables them to access international markets in a more structured and efficient manner.
This trajectory represents an extension of Dr. Aref's vision, calling for a transition from traditional models of economic cooperation to more flexible frameworks grounded in technology and international partnerships, thereby contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the presence of national products in global markets.
The experience of the highly automated trade platform represents an advanced model for integrating technology with international development and trade, embodying a modern vision for reframing export and import systems in the era of digital transformation. The platform goes beyond digitizing commercial and logistical procedures, relying on an integrated smart system for monitoring, tracking, and analysis. This enables proactive and real-time detection and management of risks and variables, enhancing operational transparency, increasing efficiency, mitigating potential delays and disruptions, and delivering greater security and reliability in managing international trade flows.
